Installation Recommendation – Design Wrapping

Our installation recommendation serves as a non-binding guide.
Some recommendations are provided as examples – the color and shape of the parts may vary. The basic instructions remain valid nonetheless.

General Notes

• The print is produced in high resolution with accurate color reproduction and a high level of detail.Color variations between digital representation and the actual product are possible due to material and display-related factors
• Our films, including the optimally matched protective laminate, are based on high-quality wrapping materials and have been specially developed for complex 3D plastic surfaces as well as substrates with low surface energy
•  They offer high formability, controllable stretch, and excellent recovery properties (memory effect) for safe and reproducible application
• The design of the film contours is intended to ensure processing that is as simple, user-friendly, and safe as possible
• Our film sets have been repeatedly tested under real conditions and successfully and reproducibly applied – even under practical user conditions
• In individual cases, local stresses may occur depending on the geometry and processing.Should these not come off completely, film sections in these areas can be carefully adjusted or trimmed to achieve an optimal result
• Advantage of protective laminate:

• Up to 7 years of durability outdoors
• Thanks to air-channel technology, air bubbles can simply be smoothed out (no needle required)
• The films are not suitable for wet application
• All contours are precisely predesigned and intended for user-friendly application
• Safety clearances to component edges and adjacent film sections are structurally taken into account (~3 mm)
• Material thickness has been selected for optimally easy handling
• Installation should ideally be carried out by two people, especially for larger film pieces
• Apply large sections in stages
• Work calmly and without time pressure
• When installing the film, we recommend wearing dry fabric gloves
• The film has a repositionable adhesive for easier placement during application
• If in doubt, it is better to start again than to force it, especially if:
  • wrinkles cannot be smoothed out cleanly
  • the film is visibly under tension
  • the position deviates significantly
  • larger bubbles form that cannot be spread out 

In these cases:

• • carefully peel the film off again and, if necessary,slightly warm. The film returns to its original state.
  • Allow to cool and reposition
  • Re-adhere cleanly

• Handling heat

• Warm the film only slightly, do not overheat 
• Guideline: hand-warm (~50 °C) 
• Always keep the hot air gun moving to avoid excessively high local temperatures (hotspots)
• Distance approx. 20–30 cm

• Required tools
  • Felt squeegee
  • Utility knife
  • Hot air gun, optionally hair dryer

 1. Requirements / environment

• Processing temperature: ideal 18–25 °C (minimum ≥15 °C) 
• Clean, dry, dust-free environment
• No direct sunlight during bonding 

2.Preparation of the surface

• Thoroughly clean and degrease the surface (e.g. with isopropanol or suitable plastic cleaners)
• If using other cleaning agents, first test compatibility with the plastic in an inconspicuous area
•  Then wipe the surface dry with a lint-free cloth and allow it to dry completely.

 3. Positioning

• Pre-position the film pieces dry and check the position
• Memorize the position / set reference points 

4.Bonding

• Dry application is expressly recommended
• High initial adhesion is already achieved after 20 minutes
• Work from the center outwards
• Smooth on smooth surfaces with a felt squeegee and even pressure
• Smooth on curved surfaces with your finger
• Smooth out air bubbles
• Bond large sections of film in stages 
• The film can be carefully lifted and repositioned if necessary 

5.Processing on strongly curved surfaces

• For curves and edges: 

• Gently heat the film and lay it in place
• The material becomes stretchable and adapts and can be shaped slightly into form

• Do not overstretch; avoid tension as much as possible 
• For greater deformation: 

• Allow the film to relax briefly (memory effect)

 6. Adhesive activation (post-heating)

• Light, even and gradual reheating to activate the adhesive, especially in the following areas:

• Edges 
• Depressions
• strongly deformed areas

7.Critical areas

• Press edges and transitions down particularly carefully 
• Do not generate excessive heat, otherwise the plastic substrate may be damaged
• Heat particularly carefully in the camera and display areas
• Rework transitions several times if necessary

8. Curing

• Do not use the mower for 24–48 hours
• Temperature >20 °C recommended
• Maximum final adhesion achieved after 24 hours

9. Removing the film after appropriate use

• Gently warm the film
• Gradually peel off the film at an angle of 60° to 90° between the film and the surface
• Any adhesive residue can be easily removed with an adhesive remover (e.g. with isopropanol) and a cotton cloth (test compatibility with the substrate beforehand)

Die Einstufung basiert auf unserer eigenen Erfahrung und wurde aus Sicht eines durchschnittlichen Anwenders vorgenommen. Sie dient als unverbindliche Orientierungshilfe zum Verarbeitungsaufwand.
